Belle Fourche, South Dakota

June 24, 2025

Julie was debating whether or not to make this two-nighter its own post or to combine it with the next couple of short destinations. Even though we didn't do much at this location, a significant number of photos somehow made it into Julie's phone. So, in the interest of dosing out pictures at an appropriate rate, she decided to just go ahead and create a post.

Hard to say goodbye to the scenic Black Hills

We were delayed a few minutes for road construction, but the scenery made up for it

We've driven through Deadwood before and mused that perhaps we should visit sometime... ...maybe next time

Quite abruptly we were out of the Black Hills and into the wide open Western Plains

Our destination was a free boondocking spot on the Belle Fourche Reservoir. The scenery was dramatically different than what we had just left, but it was beautiful and provided a peaceful place to stay for a couple of nights.

First glance at the Belle Fourche Reservoir

Had to stop for the purple flowers (and the pointy rock) --you'll see more of these later 😁

We snuggled up right against the reservoir. It's kind of hard to see here, but the Black Hills were a nice backdrop in the distance

After our weekly card game/chat with the family, we took a walk at sunset so that Julie could take a load of pictures of flowers and the pointy rock. Don't worry, she edited out most of them.

The next day, we headed into town to do some laundry and a bit of grocery shopping. The rest of the day was spent observing the ever changing weather--one minute it was sunny, the next stormy.

More of the purple flowers and the pointy rock!

That's the camper

One last view of the pointy rock

Interesting combination of sunlight and dark storm clouds

It was soon time to pack up again and continue heading west. Next stop Montana!
