Blue Springs State Park, Alabama
April 15, 2026
After a little over four months in Florida, we at last crossed the state line into Alabama. It finally felt like we were traveling "for real" now.

That's the last bit of coastline we will see for a while!

We couldn't find an Alabama Welcome sign, but as usual, Florida wants us to hurry back

That's as close to a Welcome sign that we get this time

They appear to be proud of their peanuts here!

Watch out for those Alabama pigs darting out of the forest!

We haven't seen hills in over four months (aside from some in St. Paul, Minnesota)
This stay was short--only three nights, so this post will be commensurately short as well.
Blue Springs State Park reminded Julie of the kind of place that families visit every year to camp and roast marshmallows and swim and play in old-fashioned playgrounds, complete with old rusty metal swings with long chains and dangerous merry-go-rounds that are a little off-kilter. She could imagine screaming kids riding bicycles and splashing in the creek and walking around with flashlights in the dark. But this was April, and, aside from the camp host, a lone tenter, a motorhome (with obviously retired occupants), and a helicopter that tended to hover over us at odd times, the place was empty and quiet in a sort of wistful way. (Julie blames this sudden onslaught of nostalgia on the fact that she got sucked into reminiscing over old family camping photos when writing the last post.)

Our very pleasant and private campsite

We had a view of the creek out back

Blue Springs State Park is not large, and we were able to walk most of it in an hour or so. It was a nice place to park for a few days before moving on.

The fishing pond is on the left

The two natural spring pools looked like they would be fun for kids to swim and snorkel in. Along the periphery were a smattering of picnic tables in the shade of big trees.

The lower spring pool emptied into the creek below

The upper spring was the "deep end"
Look around at the springs

This is just a random picture that Julie shot as we were leaving. She just liked the pattern of the leaf shadows on the back of the RV 🙂
