Moon Lake Recreation Area, Pennsylvania
May 19, 2024
We had one more stop in Pennsylvania on our trek northward. After clear skies for most of the journey, we arrived to gloomy drizzle at our very spacious new campsite in the trees.

The morning was gorgeous when we left Colonel Denning State Park

We passed through some cute small towns along the way

Starting to drizzle right as we entered the recreation area

Our huge campsite

This is probably the largest campsite we have ever had --and with no one else close by
We have been reflecting how different this year is from last year's trip out west. Definitely a lot rainier and a lot greener (with a lot less solar). The rain hasn't really been that much of an issue for Rick, though, since he has been collaborating with Alan on a brand new blogging platform for our blog. Alan thought it would be a "fun" project to write a new program to replace our cumbersome Blogger tool. Rick agrees that it is fun. It is fun to have Alan do all the work while Rick (a retired person with not much else to do) generates an unending list of wish-list features for our fancy new blog tool. Stay tuned in a few weeks or so when we unveil the new masterpiece 😉.
During a break in the rain on Friday, we took a trip into the nearby town of Wilkes-Barre to have the truck tires rotated. Julie discovered an interesting-looking nature area nearby (Seven Tubs Recreation Area), so we had ourselves a nicer-than-expected hike.

Melting glaciers created the interesting geology found in the park

Rick commented on how fun this would have been when he was a kid with all the logs to walk across
Saturday rained pretty much the entire day, and that gave Rick the opportunity to add more items to Alan's to-do list. Sunday's weather was much improved by the afternoon, and we finally explored Moon Lake.

Northern watersnake

It was a little early in the season for the waterlilies, but Julie took lots of pictures of them anyway

More waterlilies

Kind of a blurry shot, but you get the idea

One last shot of waterlilies--promise!
