Mt. Baker - Snoqualmie NF Part 2, Washington

November 20, 2024

Continuing on with the rest of the post

Look around

Thankfully, the last part of the trail was mostly level

Look around - right off the trail

Lots of little waterfalls

Look aound - views everywhere!

As is usually the case after a long-ish hike, we took it easy the next day. We checked out a nearby waterfall and then decided to take a random forest service road to see where it went.

Lots of warnings of danger and death

The chain link fence really enhanced the ambiance

It was difficult to get a good view of the falls

Just before the falls

Random forest service road which was surprisingly paved for much of the way

Found a few wild thimbleberries. They are similar to raspberries, but more flavorful--kind of like a fruit roll-up.

We were ready for another hike by Sunday, so we drove back up the mountain to tackle the Table Mountain trail (only about 3 miles - but lots of altitude).

Mt. Baker again

It was a pretty steep climb up, but at least it wasn't too long. There were some sketchy parts, though. We took pictures of the sketchy parts on the way back down.

Here is one of the switchbacks in the "nice" section. Look around

The views at the top were outstanding

Look around from the top

That's Rick on the rock in the distance

Look around from where we rested at the top (same location as photo above was taken)

Julie thought it was cute that Rick took a picture with flowers in it

Look around

It was fun to look down upon where we had hiked the other day

Yup - this is the one I was taking above. Look around and zoom in as it nicely shows our earlier trail up to the saddle.

Going back down along the sketchy switchbacks

Rick walked closer to the edge than Julie did

Julie keeping close tabs with the wall

Rick was only holding the poles for Julie so she could take pictures. Rick doesn't use hiking poles.

Looking back at Table Mountain

More of Mt. Baker

Can't not take a picture at Picture Lake

Such a pretty area

Monday was a chore day where we drove about 45 minutes to find a laundromat and grocery store. That took up most of the day. At least it was a pretty drive.

Tuesday was a gorgeous day where we just hung out at camp and enjoyed the pine scent of the forest and the sound of the rushing river out on the deck. Life is good!

Since this was an even more "solar challenged" campsite than last week, our battery bank got down to around 44% by the time we left. Still didn't need the generator yet! But, it looks like we will be spending some quality time in a sunny parking lot on our way to our next destination.

Rick doing some "extreme" electricity conservation

After we left the campground, we sat in a sunny parking lot for the afternoon (composing this blog post and getting last minute groceries, as well as harvesting some solar before we go to ANOTHER shaded campsite).  We got up to 85% after a few hours - hopefully we can get to the mid 90's during the rest of our drive!
