Natchez Trace Part 2, Mississippi
November 3, 2024
The fall leaves were starting to fall off the trees, and that was our cue to head south again in order to keep in step with autumn for as long as we could.

Back on the Natchez Trace Parkway--if only every road we traveled on looked like this!

Sorry about the motion blur. The sign says something about King Charles and the separation of North and South Carolina, blah, blah, blah, and something about Tennessee and Andrew Jackson and maybe Alabama somewhere in there.

We were in Alabama only a short while before entering Mississippi

Our home for the week was in the Tombigbee National Forest on beautiful Davis Lake, about 25 miles south of Tupelo, Mississippi and about 4 miles off of the Natchez Trace Parkway. There was not much to do in the area besides take in the view.

We did manage to find a nice little disc golf course (Joe Brigance) in a neighboring town about 15 miles away, so we did that one afternoon.

We skipped hole 7 as there were a bunch of cars parked around the basket!
Another afternoon, we rode on the Tanglefoot rails-to-trails bike trail. It was a very pleasant ride, but it wins the prize for our most boring trail route ever...

The battery on the GPS was dead, so Rick used a phone app to capture our exciting ride! The altitude information seems a bit messed up after the import😲

Pretty country road on the way to the trailhead

So nice not to have to deal with crowded trails. We were the only ones in this trailhead parking lot on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Pretty trail, but straight as an arrow the entire time

The tiny town of Algoma was our arbitrary destination

We thought it odd that the swings and the walking trail were fenced in at this city park

Have to say, the trail was quite nice
Our last day, Sunday, was an especially nice day weather-wise, and we took a walk around the park surrounding the campground.

Our campsite was on the peninsula jutting out into the lake

Some parting pictures of the view from our campsite:
