Patoka Lake State Park, Indiana

May 15, 2025

We had a bit of rain during our take-down at Natural Bridge State Park, but we've been in far worse. The forecast hinted very strongly for rain upon our arrival at Patoka Lake, but we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with warm sunshine instead.

Crossing over the Ohio River into Indiana

A gorgeous campsite!

This was a relatively short stay for us (three nights), but we had a great time visiting with some of our old previous neighbors from Cincinnati.

Jenny, Carol, Ken and Tom from Cincinnati A lot more people showed up later during our stay but we forgot to get another group photo

We also found some time to enjoy the park-- a round of disc golf one morning, and a bike ride through the park another morning.

The disc golf course was quite nice (but very heavily wooded)

Found some holes that looked to be made by a fairly large animal

And this turtle crossing the fairway

While Julie was taking a picture of this fragrant wild rose, Rick proceeded to throw his disc deep into the forest. It took at least half an hour (or more) to finally find the disc. In fact, we probably added an extra hour or two to our game just hunting for lost discs!

The park had a nice network of bike trails

One of the trails dead-ended here. We couldn't quite figure out what this area was originally intended to be. We thought maybe it used to be a fire pit, but the bench placement was kind of odd.

The beach was closed due to high water. We were not a fan of the architectural style of these buildings.

The sundial looked like it could use a little calibration 😉. The actual time was 1:45.

The underwater beach

Interesting floating cabins at the marina

Our campground loop

We didn't get around to taking this little path off our our campsite.

We got some rain on Tuesday afternoon, but we were later rewarded with a fantastic sunset...

Rain in the distance heading our way
