Smith Lake, Alabama

November 12, 2023

We enjoyed a beautiful warm travel day, and arrived at Smith Lake Park (north of Birmingham) to a mostly empty campground. There were some vacant RVs scattered about, and it seemed they were possibly being stored here for the off-season. Other than that, there were perhaps five or six occupied campsites at any given time.  It made for a very quiet stay, if not a bit eerie.

Our pleasant (and mostly empty) campground for the week

The first few days were nice and warm (upper 70s). We walked around the park and checked out Smith Lake one day. At this time of year, the water level is drawn down, so the beach area was kind of muddy and not very attractive. There really wasn't much to see or do here, which we didn't really mind. We'll have plenty of excitement in about a week when we meet up with family for Thanksgiving in Florida.

We did head out to do some grocery shopping as well as visit the nearby Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. By the weekend, the weather had turned dreary and cool, and we spent most of the time indoors (aside from daily campground walks).

And that's all folks----not very exciting this week!

Rick's Tech Corner:

As a little preview - our slide in our kitchen (fortunately we only have one slide) has been making some unpleasant noises. A bit of investigation revealed that the RV manufacturer installed one of the rollers under our slide improperly (shocker). The roller's eventual demise is easy to extrapolate, so another item has been added to the "Florida To-Do List".

As we can see here - the roller is supposed to be located slightly to the left so it rolls on the floor and not the thin metal strip . . .
